Central West Refrigerator Dispatch, CRDX, is founded by Fred H. Sasser. The company’s earliest focus during the Depression years was on providing wood-sheathed box cars to railroads for the transportation of livestock. Chicago Freight Car and Parts Company was subsequently formed to provide the maintenance support services needed for the fleet.1939
Fred’s only son, Robert Sasser, joins the company and leaves shortly thereafter to serve with the U.S. Army Transportation Corps. He eventually brings back added experience to help grow the company.1946
New repair and refurbishment shops are added in Pueblo, Colorado and Auburn, Washington to service customers such as the Mexican & Alaskan Railroads.1956
Fred H. Sasser becomes Chairman of the Board and Robert Sasser assumes the role of Chicago Freight Car Leasing’s President.1960
Chicago Freight Car increases its rail refurbishment capacity at the Chicago operation to further support railcar fleet services offerings.1980’s
Chicago Freight Car expands lease fleet of railcars to serve industrial and agricultural customers throughout North America.1981
Fred R. Sasser becomes President of Chicago Freight Car Leasing Co. after having been trained in engineering and holding various commercial and administrative leadership roles.1986
Chicago Freight Car headquarters moves to Rosemont, IL, where we reside today.1989
Chicago Freight Car acquires Union Leasing, a lessor of vehicles and light trucks.1998
Chicago Freight Car forms CFCL Australia Pty. LTD. Headquartered in Sydney, Australia, CFCLA has pioneered private rail services in this growing market and includes Chicago Freight Car’s entry in to locomotive leasing services.2008
