Cars range from 52‘6 “ to 66’ long and are designed to deliver 70 (140,000 lbs.) to 109 tons (218,000 lbs.) of product. Mill gondolas built to the 286,000 rail limit are sized as follows:Gross Rail Weight Limit:
- The 52’ 6” gondolas have an inside height of 5’ 6” and a capacity of 2,650 - 2,743 cubic feet, with an estimated load limit of 218,000 lbs.
- The 66’ gondolas have an inside height of 6’ and a capacity of 3,564 – 3,675 cubic feet, with an estimated load limit of 209,500 lbs.
Cars built for the requirements of 286,000 lbs. or 263,000 lbs. gross rail weight limits.Loading:
Gondolas can be equipped with cross bars, load restraining devices or other devices for special purpose handling.
